| Dear Stonewall Families,
This is the last PTA email of 2008. Unless there is urgent news, our next newsletter will be sent in January of 2009. Fall of 2008 included some big challenges for our school. I appreciate the continued support of the the teachers, staff, students and families of Stonewall Jackson. Best wishes for the holidays. I hope your family has a happy, healthy, new year!

 Outdoor Science Lab - Give the gift of the Garden!

Is your house already overflowing with "stuff"? This holiday season, consider giving a gift that gives back. You can make a gift donation to support Stonewall gardens and we will send an acknowledgment card to the person you choose. To see a sample of the card, go to StonewallGardens.com. This gift will support our children's education, will honor the recipient, is tax deductible and won't end up at the bottom of the toy box next month!
The SJPTA is a non-profit 501(c)3. We'll send you a receipt for your tax records.

| Garden/OSL Fundraising Update -$11,000 Raised - $19,000 To Go!

Look in the school hallways for the thermometers that mark our fundraising progress. We need to raise $30,000 to fund the Outdoor Science Lab/Garden for the remainder of the school year. To date, we have received $11,000 which puts us more than a third of the way towards our goal. A BIG thank you to the families that have already generously donated to help our cause. Please donate today!

| 'Tis the Season for Helping Others

Adopted Family
Stonewall has adopted a family to help this holiday season. The family has 3 children, ages 7, 9, & 13. The mother has severe health issues. There is a box in the lobby with ideas. Please pick up a tag (there are many still waiting to be picked up) and then return your gifts by the end of the week.
Food Drive - Food for Free Dress Pass
Bring in 5 cans of food this week and receive a free dress pass for this Friday, December 19th. The food must be received by Thursday, December 18th. Drop off the cans in the lobby and pick up your dress pass from Ms. Ashby in the Counselor's Office.
Thank you for your generosity this holiday season!

| Entertainment Books Due

Deadline for Passbook Entertainment was Friday, December 12. Keep the discount coupon book for $20. There are plenty of savings in restaurants, museums, attraction tickets, hotels, salon services and more. Proceeds of this sale will go towards the Stonewall Outdoor Science Lab-Garden. You can also purchase more for your family and friends. Or ask your family or friends to purchase from your child.
If you have misplaced the original Passbook Entertainment Envelope, please use
another envelope to submit the money. Mark it with your child's name and class.
Please label it with "Passbook". If you are returning the book, please place a "sticky" note with your child's name and class. Please do NOT mark directly on any unpurchased Passbook Entertainment books. Return the money or the book back to your child's teacher.
You may purchase additional Dallas Entertainment books by:
1) Writing on the envelope the quantity of additional books and submitting $20 for each additional book. Additional books will be sent to your child to deliver within a week of returning the Envelope.
2) Or you can purchase online at www.fundraising.entertainment.com/support. Enter SJE special code 940779 along with a zipcode. You will see Thank you for supporting Stonewall Jackson Elementary as you proceed to checkout. SJE earns profit for online sales as long as the code is used.
Important Information
· Please return orders and payment in the Envelope by this Thursday, December 18th, 2008.
· If you do not purchase the Passbook Entertainment book, please return it to school by the sale end date or sooner. (Note: This is not a free copy.) All books must be accountable.
· Checks shall be made payable to Stonewall Jackson Elementary PTA or SJPTA.

Tours of J.L. Long Middle School are now being offered by appointment for prospective parents.
- Please call Ms. Romero at (972) 502-4718 to schedule at least one day in advance
- Tours are offered the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays and Thursdays of the month by Mr. Jayroe, assistant principal

Hosted by Nancy Warncke, violin instructor for Prodigies in Progress. She provides on-site violin instruction in association with the after-school program.

| Silent Auction 2009

"URGENT CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS"
The date for Silent Auction is April 18, 2009 and will be here before we know it - only 3 months after we return from holidays! We have been working very hard behind the scenes in preparation, but still need to fill some key roles:
3-4 Solicitation Committee Members
We'll provide you with 2007 Auction spreadsheet of items/vendors and simply ask you to contact them again. We have also targeted businesses in the area and will give you forms to help you sell our school. Please contact Kari Myers, Solicitation Chair, at myersmr@sbcglobal.net or Rachel Buxkamper, Donation Tracking Committee, at rachel@abbypiper.com to volunteer.
Teacher Donation chair
We need a parent to coordinate the donations from our faculty. We have a list of ideas and items from previous Auctions; things like "go to a movie with Mrs. Senecal."
Stonewall has experienced a very difficult year and fundraising is critical, so please consider volunteering your time!
More Auction information will be coming following the holidays, but if you can help in these areas ASAP, please contact us to volunteer.
